The Impact of Electrification and Automated Technologies on Business Strategy

Date: April 28, 2021
Topic: Business Strategy, New Technology

In 2017-2018, Strategy& worked with AASA to assess market opportunities through 2030 for the CASE technologies. The result was a thorough report that laid out CASE developmental factors, timeline, and market opportunities.

Three years later, time has elapsed, COVID-19 hit, and some changes in the fundamental assumptions underlying that 2018 forecast have emerged. As a result of this new market environment, AASA and Strategy& have updated the 2018 study.

This update addresses key questions for the automotive aftermarket industry, including:

  • What will be the impact of the key changes in vehicle technology – in particular, electrification and driving assist – on the aftermarket?  How should suppliers think about their business strategies?

  • Describe the effects that the pandemic has had on the adoption of CASE and what this means for the aftermarket.

  • Provide upside and downside scenarios for adoption rates and impact at the VIO level and for product groups.

  • What is the timing of these impacts and changes?

This report was originally presented at the 2021 Vision Conference and in the April follow-up webinar, exclusively for AASA members.
