AASA Technology Council Tackles Best Practices for Online Business

Date: April 11, 2019
Members of the AASA Technology Council (ATC) are following up their recent Roundtable discussion about online business challenges at the Council’s Spring Meeting by collecting and communicating best practices for success. The ATC met on April 4 in Dearborn, Mich., following the 2019 AASA Vision Conference.

Council members noted in the discussion, “Integrating with Online Platforms,” that there are multiple ways to provide data to and sell through e-tailers and online marketplaces. However, online business is challenging to manufacturers because they are not set up to sell, drop ship and service single products. The ATC will review the best practices at future meetings.

Also on the ATC Spring Meeting agenda were:

  • Discussion of Advanced Vehicle Technologies with John Waraniak, vice president, vehicle technology for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA)
  • Presentation by Ram Chandrasekar, founder and CEO, PhaseZero Ventures, “Digitizing Your Data”
  • Presentation by Charley Johnson, CEO of OptiCat, “Access to Vehicle Data”
  • An update on aftermarket technology at CES by AASA Senior Vice President Chris Gardner
  • Review of the Heavy Duty Product Data Standard by Jeff Marshall, director of business development, Pricedex Software

The ATC Spring Meeting was supported by premier sponsor Pricedex Software and sponsors Gates Corp., OptiCat and TecAlliance. Presentations are available at the ATC member portal on the AASA website.

The next ATC member gatherings will be Online Meetings on Thursday, July 18 and Thursday, July 25. Presenters from IHS Markit and TecAlliance will address “Global Vehicle Data.” For more information about the July online meetings or ATC membership, contact Chris Gardner, AASA senior vice president: cgardner@aasa.mema.org.
